American Basketflower

American Basketflower is a spectacular wildflower, native to the United States. It gets its name because the flower buds exhibit a basket weave pattern. The 2- to 3-inch-wide flower, lavender-pink in color with cream-colored centers, has a sweet, honey-like fragrance.

Growing guide
- Sowing
May be started indoors 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting outside, or direct sow in full sun after all danger of frost has passed. Plant seed thinly, 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep, cover with soil and keep moist. Mature plants can handle drought well, but water during extended dry spells. Provide good air circulation to keep foliage healthy.
- Thinning
When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin to 1 to 2 feet apart.
- Germination
Germinates in 7 to 10 days depending on soil and temperature conditions.
- Remarks
Easy to grow. Makes excellent cut flowers. Attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Songbirds will eat the seeds after the flower fades.
