Growing guide
- Sowing
For mature roots and greens, sow seed outside as soon as soil can be worked in spring or in late summer for a fall crop. Plant seed 2 inches apart, cover with ½ inch of fine soil and water well.
- Thinning
When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin to 5 to 6 inches apart. Eat your thinnings in a salad!
- Germination
Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and weather conditions.
- Remarks
Steam the tender stems and leaves as an alternative to spinach or chard. Beets are rich in Vitamin C and essential minerals.
