Growing guide

Sowing

Plant corn seed in full sun directly in the garden when the soil has warmed to at least 70°F and nighttime temps do not dip below 60°F. Corn requires full sun and fertile soil. Plant seed 1½ inches deep, 3–4 inches apart in blocks (4’x4’) or rows 24 inches apart.

Thinning

When plants are 5 inches tall, thin to 10 inches apart. Corn is wind-pollinated and crowded plants may not produce full ears.

Germination

8–15 days depending on soil temperature.

Remarks

For continuous harvest, plant every three weeks until mid-summer. Pull soil up around plants when cultivating to help keep the wind from blowing the plants down. Pick when silks turn brown. Excellent for canning or freezing.
