🌱Sowing

Poppies do not transplant well. Seeds started indoors should be in peat pots or plant seeds directly in the garden where they are to grow. Scatter seeds on soil surface, firmly press down and keep evenly moist until first true leaves appear. Seeds need light to germinate.

✂️Thinning

When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin 12 to 15 inches apart.

⏱Germination

Germinates in 5 to 10 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

📋Remarks

Blooms in late spring and early summer. Late plantings bloom the following spring. Poppy flowers don’t shatter until they’ve been pollinated. If you cut one just before it is to open, sear the cut end in a flame for 10 seconds, and plunk the stem immediately into cold water, the bloom will open beautifully and last in the vase for days.
